Buick Envision On Show for North American Debut in Detroit

We already know what the Buick Envision looks like, but I thought it was worth posting about the North American debut of the Envision which happened this week at the Detroit Auto Show.

The Envision will sit between the smaller Encore ($24,065) and the larger Enclave ($39,065). The Envision's price should sit somewhere between those two marks.

The Buick Envision comes with some exciting tech features too. it is equipped with HiPer Strut front suspension, active grille shutters to boost efficiency and many safety & driver assistance systems, including Lane Change Alert and Collision Mitigation Braking.

The Buick Envision will go on sale in the US in the second quarter of 2016.

I think they could have went with more aggressive rear end design rather than with something with softer lines. Almost looks too much like a Hyundai.

The back reminds me of a mini van for some reason.

Considering the vehicle was originally meant for China, I'm sure that choice was made to appeal to Chinese tastes.

To some extent, yeah. But you still have to factor in them identifying the need to diversify distribution and potential for other markets. Only makes sense when investing into the hundreds of millions, billion mark even.

I know that they change the design slightly if needed between markets, but I'm sure its better to just have a design that can be global in the first place.

It is and with a brand like Buick they can do that. After all they do also operate in China. The appeal of an american luxury car is big enough to make it a good case.

I'm just not sure if there are really that many distinct differences for a midsize SUV like this that would make it needed to change the model between markets.

Car makers sometimes change little things like grilles, some interior stuff. Usually it's things that don't take a lot of effort, just bolts right on and off.

Doubt Buick will go through the trouble of changing anything cosmetic for another market. Since the Chinese market is so large it makes sense for them to cater to the Asian market. Maybe it'll look better to me in real life and not pictures.
