After the launch of the Envision in China, Buick added a lower-powered 166HP 1.5L four-cylinder engine, paired to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT). It supposedly returns 35+ MPG in the Envision. Anyone think GM would sell it here, or are we only going to get the larger 2.0L turbo four cylinder with 256 hp?

Buick Envision Gets New 166HP 1.5L Engine and 7-Speed DCT in China

Available both with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, the Envision 20T gets the most powerful member of GM’s latest-generation Ecotec engine lineup, the 1.5T SIDI unit, which produces 166hp at 5,600 rpm and 250Nm (184lb-ft) between 1,700 rpm and 4,400 rpm.

Equipped with a start/stop as standard, the engine averages 6.6 l/100 km (35.6 mpg US) in the Envision, complying with China’s advanced National V emission standard.

Customers who want a more powerful Envision can choose the 28T model, which is motivated by a 2.0-liter direct injection turbocharged gasoline engine producing 256hp and 353Nm (260lb-ft) of torque. The 2.0-liter engine is only offered with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Since its launch in October, the Buick Envision 28T has become a leader in China’s high-end SUV segment, with sales exceeding 40,000 units. With the arrival of the Envision 20T, the Envision nameplate will offer customers two powertrains and eight variants.
