Shimmer/Shake Noise

6168 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  NormT
My Envision Premium II has a random noise that happens sometimes when the vehicle is traveling up an incline in the road. This seems to happen when when giving the engine slight gas but not enough to cause a shift in torque (? shift to higher RPM). The noise sounds like a shimmer or shake. I thought this might be pinging, knocking caused due to my use of 87 octane gas but I am now using 91+ octane gas and the noise continues to show up on occasions. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this problem.

Yes, we talked about it in another post. I'm pretty sure it is a rubber bushing on a control arm that is reflecting a resonance.
Could be the 19" wheels and Hyperstrut where the non-premium received smaller tires.

I data logged the transmission watching shifting patterns and torque converter locking up and couldn't find anything that stood out.

I did find the quivering usually changes with temperature. I find it less in cooler weather but more pronounced in warmer weather which lead me to a bushing.
I still hear a little something and it depends on temperature a bit (less in the cold) and I think maybe how hard I shut the door. To me it still sounds like a little rubber on rubber coming from the driver/passenger door pillar ("B" pillar I think) or the seal near the back top of the driver's window. I think I'm just going to have to learn to live with it.

This sounds like the same issue we had. This is how the dealer described it: Find concern may fall under #17-NA-059. Correction: Reprogram and setup rear diff clutch control module. It seemed to fix the problem. Have you checked with the dealer?

Thanks for feed back. I am going to drop it off with dealer next week and mention #17-NA=059 service bulletin. I am hoping that will solve the issue.

Here is the service manual definition for that bulletin. Mine starts at 18 mph and goes to about 23 mph with some steering input.

Condition
Some customers may comment on when mostly driving on a smooth road, a metallic gear type rattle can be heard when cruising between 72 to 85 km/h (45 and 53 mph).
Cause
This condition may be caused by the rear differential clutches turning off when the vehicle is in 6th gear and cruising at a steady rate of speed above 70 km/h (44 mph) for more than 10 seconds.
Correction
If the rattling noise has been validated to be caused by the condition listed, the Rear Differential Clutch Control Module (RDCCM) must be updated to the latest software calibrations available.
