With a new car the plastics out gas and create a film on the windows. That means extra cleaning but sometimes general cleaning is nor enough if you laser monitoring for stopping of active cruise control. I took mine apart and you can see where I took my finger through the film.

How did you detach the whole rear view mirror and did it affect the sensors?

There is a two-piece plastic beauty cover. The rear view mirror is held up with a screwed in 6-point head like aT-20. Mine was loose!

After that you'll see how radar sensor hooks onto the windshield and rain sensor sits below it, if so equipped. The rain sensor is just a little puck that has a radar sensor that monitors for water droplets. No need to remove it. I did not disconnect any sensor, just worked around them.

On my Cadillac XTS is helped the rain sensor be more reactive but it is a different style of sensor.

This looks easy enough for anyone to do, even someone new to working on cars since there's not much to this although from what I see there's some slight potential to break something. Probably best for newbs to send this off to the professionals if they don't trust themselves.
